Botox Q & A

What is BotoxⓇ?

Botox is a minimally invasive, injectable medication that smooths the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. FDA approved since 2002, Botox is safe and effective.

A nonsurgical approach to slowing the signs of aging, Botox contains botulinum toxin A, which blocks the nerve signals to your muscles, causing them to relax. When these muscles stop their repetitive movements, lines and crease on the face begin to smooth, creating a more youthful appearance.

Botox can be used to treat:

  • Crow’s feet

  • Forehead lines

  • Eyebrow wrinkles

  • Expression lines

  • Glabellar lines (the “11” that can form between your eyebrows)

Beyond cosmetic improvements, Dr. Bushore uses Botox to treat migraines and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

What happens during a Botox procedure?

When you see Dr. Bushore for Botox treatment, he marks the areas to be treated and prepares the Botox injections. He may ask that you make exaggerated facial movements to determine which muscles are causing your wrinkles and creases.

He then administers the injections directly into those muscles, causing them to relax and stop moving. The procedure takes about 10-15 minutes and requires no downtime. You can immediately return to work or go about your daily activities.

How long does a Botox treatment last?

Botox treatments typically last around three months. Results begin immediately and get progressively better as time passes. Because Botox stops your muscles from moving, the lines they create in the skin diminish and become less noticeable.

Although Botox is not permanent, some people do notice lasting results after several treatments.
